Iontophoresis treatment for hyperhidrosis (increased sweating of the armpits, palms and soles)

Increased sweating in the palms of the hands, legs or armpits is a very unpleasant problem for those who suffer from it. In this case, iontophoresis is an effective, inexpensive, safe and easily adaptable form of therapy for increased sweating. Compared to surgery or botulinum toxin injections, iontophoresis is completely painless and has no side-effects, unlike medical treatment.

Botulinum toxin injections are the most common treatment for axillary hyperhidrosis, but can also be used to treat increased sweating of the palms and soles. The procedure involves the injection of small amounts of botulinum toxin, which temporarily blocks the release of a substance that stimulates the sweat glands. One of the main drawbacks of the procedure is that the injections into the palms and soles of the hands and feet are very painful and require local or even general anaesthesia. The effect is temporary, usually lasting 4-6 months in the palms and soles and up to 12 months in the armpits. Once the effect has worn off, the procedure can be repeated.

Side effects: painful, need to repeat the procedure, temporary muscle weakness may develop when applied to the palms.

Iontophoresis is a painless, safe, effective procedure for the treatment of increased sweating in the armpits, palms and soles. Compared to botulinum toxin injections, iontophoresis is completely painless and maintenance treatments can be performed at home. Iontophoresis uses special equipment that generates a low-voltage electric current, thereby inhibiting the activity of the sweat glands.

Initially, 3-5 treatments per week are carried out, with a duration of 15-20 minutes per treatment. Usually 10-15 treatments are needed to achieve effectiveness, followed by maintenance treatments as needed, usually 1-2 treatments/week. If the patient is satisfied with the effect, the treatments can be continued at home after purchase of the device.

Additional therapeutic effects:

Scientific studies have shown that this treatment method has excellent results also in the treatment of gram-negative foot infections, dyshidrosis, palmar-pubular pustulosis, arthrosis and acrocyanosis.
