Chemical skin exfoliation with NEOSTRATA products

A chemical peel is a procedure that removes dead skin cells and stimulates cell regeneration in the deeper layers of the skin. This stimulates the formation of a new skin layer. The skin becomes smoother and brighter. The peeling procedure is mainly used on the face, except for the eye area, but can also be applied to the neckline, arms, legs and back.

The NEOSTRATA chemical facial peel was developed by dermatologists. This treatment is recognised worldwide for its effectiveness and excellent customer feedback.

Types of Neostrata peels:

  • Glycolic acid peel;
  • Retinol peel.
  • In the Laser Dermatology Centre, a chemical peel with glycolic acid is used to remove dead skin cells, stimulate skin regeneration, cleanse pores, improve skin texture, and lighten pigment spots.

Indications for chemical peels:

  • Dull, sagging skin;
  • Fine lines and wrinkles;
  • Fine lines and wrinkles, uneven pigmentation;
  • Oily skin, enlarged pores;
  • Dry and sensitive, reddened skin;
  • Acne, acne, acne scars.

Preparing for skin exfoliation

Patients are advised to avoid the sun and sunbeds for a week before the chemical peel procedure. In order to properly prepare the skin for the peeling procedure, it may be advisable to use vitamin A, alpha-hydroxy acids or other preparations for a month or more before the peeling procedure.

Procedure flow

Before exfoliation, the skin is cleansed and the more sensitive areas of the face (lower eyelids, corners of the lips, nasolabial folds) are coated with a protective layer of Vaseline. A certain amount of glycolic acid is then applied to the face and held for a few minutes. During this time, the patient may feel tingling and redness of the skin, but this is a normal skin reaction. The affected area is then thoroughly washed with an acid neutralising fluid and a special restorative cream is applied. The procedure takes about 15 to 20 minutes.

What can I expect after a chemical peel?

  • There may be a short-term sensation of irritation and dryness. The skin may become red and flaky, and sometimes small scabs and blisters may appear;
  • Sunscreen should be used after the treatment;
  • Avoidance of solariums, saunas and saunas is recommended;
  • A course of treatments is recommended to achieve the best results and to see a visible improvement in the skin condition, i.e. 2 – 4 chemical peeling treatments every 2 – 3 weeks. Also, home aftercare is very important, so the chemical peel specialist will select the most suitable skin care products for your skin.

Contraindications for chemical peels:

  • Skin infections that can be caused by bacteria (Staphylococcus aureus), yeasts (Candida albicans) or viruses (Herpes simplex);
  • Uneven facial pigmentation, which is more common in darker skinned patients or those with pigmented skin before the procedure. It is therefore recommended to avoid the sun and use protective measures;
  • Skin sensitivity, redness;
  • Rashes;
  • Scars. This procedure is not recommended for individuals with a high propensity for scarring.

The Laser Dermatology Centre uses a combination therapy for the treatment of youthful acne, combining skin exfoliation with pulsed light sessions.
The consulting doctor will design an individual programme for each case.
